Whisky & Glassware

Method

Whisky & Glassware

1

Prepare glass

Choose a Glencairn or tulip-shaped tasting glass. Warm the glass briefly in your hands for 10–15 seconds to release aromatics, then set it down.

2

Pour whisky

Measure 2 oz (a standard single pour/tasting portion) of Talisker 10 Years and pour into the prepared glass.

3

Nose the whisky

Hold the glass by the base or stem, bring it to nose level and inhale gently with short sniffs. Note initial impressions: maritime smoke, peppery spice, dried fruit and sea-salt notes.

4

Taste neat

Take a small sip and let the whisky coat your mouth. Focus on texture and flavor progression: briny smoke, peppery heat, malt sweetness and a warming finish.

5

Add water (optional)

If the alcohol feels dominant or you want to open aromatics, add 1 small tsp of cold water, stir gently with the glass, then nose and taste again. Repeat with small additional drops if desired — adding too much will dilute character.

6

Serve chilled (optional)

If you prefer a colder presentation, add a single large ice cube. Let it sit 30–60 seconds to slightly chill and mildly dilute; re-nose and taste to compare with neat and slightly watered versions.

Accompaniments (optional)

7

Between sips, cleanse the palate with a small bite of crusty bread or a plain water cracker to reset taste receptors. Small amounts of sharp cheddar or a square of 70% dark chocolate pair well and highlight the whisky’s sweet and smoky contrasts. Take another sip of Talisker after each bite to observe how flavors interact.
