Prepare glass

Choose a rocks (old-fashioned) glass. Fill it about three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes to properly chill and dilute the drink as you build it.

Add spirits

Pour 1 oz Campari over the ice, then add 1 oz sweet (red) vermouth directly into the glass.

Top with soda

Gently pour approximately 2 oz chilled club soda (about a splash to 2 oz depending on glass size and taste) into the glass. Pour slowly to retain some effervescence and avoid over-diluting.

Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir the drink gently 6–8 times to combine Campari, vermouth, and soda while keeping the carbonation. Stirring also chills and balances dilution.

Garnish and serve

Express the oils of an orange peel over the surface or drop in an orange slice, or use a lemon twist if preferred. Serve immediately with a short straw if desired.
