Method
Prepare Watermelon Juice
Cut seedless watermelon into chunks and puree in a blender until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing solids to extract as much juice as possible. Measure out 3 oz (about 90 ml) per cocktail. Chill any unused juice.
Muddle Basil & Build
Muddle
Place 6 fresh basil leaves in the base of a cocktail shaker. Add the fresh lemon juice (0.75 oz) and simple syrup (0.5 oz). Gently muddle the basil with a muddler or the back of a spoon 6–8 times to release the oils — do not over-macerate to avoid bitterness.
Add Spirits and Juice
Add 2 oz Bombay Sapphire gin and 3 oz freshly strained watermelon juice to the shaker. Add a handful of ice (about 1 cup) to chill and dilute properly.
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold and slightly frosty.
Strain & Finish
Garnish with a small watermelon wedge or a couple of melon balls on a pick and a fresh basil sprig. Optionally slap the basil sprig between your palms to release aroma before garnishing.
