Cocktail
Build and chill
Add 2 oz Fernet-Branca, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice to a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup).
Shake
Shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted. The shake dilutes and rounds the fernet's high-proof, herbal intensity.
Strain
Double-strain (or use a Hawthorne and fine strainer) into a chilled rocks glass over one large ice cube or into a chilled coupe if you prefer it up.
Garnish & Aromatics
Optional eucalyptus aroma: lightly brush the eucalyptus leaf against the rim (do not muddle or drop into the drink) or hover it briefly over the glass to impart a subtle eucalyptus note — this complements Fernet's menthol/eucalyptus character but should be used sparingly to avoid overwhelming the cocktail.
Finish with lime: float a lime wheel on the surface or thread a twist on the rim for a bright citrus counterpoint to the medicinal, minty herbs.
Serving
Serve immediately while cold. Sip slowly — Fernet-based cocktails are intense and savory. Offer a small water carafe alongside if desired.
