Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a martini/coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure the drink stays cold and maintains a nice crema.

2

Brew and cool espresso

If using fresh espresso, pull a double shot (about 2 oz). Allow it to cool for 1–2 minutes so it isn't piping hot (hot espresso will overly dilute and melt ice). If using cold-brew concentrate, measure 2 oz and proceed.

3

Add ingredients to shaker

Fill a cocktail shaker about two-thirds full with ice (approximately 1.5 cups). Pour in 2 oz cooled espresso, 1 oz Kahlúa, 1.5 oz Smirnoff Whipped Vodka, and 0.25 oz simple syrup if you prefer a slightly sweeter, silkier drink.

4

Dry shake (optional)

For a richer, frothier crema, briefly 'dry shake' (shake without ice) for 8–10 seconds after adding the liquids. This step helps emulsify and build foam, particularly with flavored vodkas that have a creamy profile.

5

Wet shake

Add ice if you dry-shook, or simply seal the shaker if you didn't. Shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch and you see condensation. Vigorous shaking chills the drink, dilutes slightly, and creates a smooth, silky mouthfeel with a foamy top.

6

Strain

Remove the glass from the freezer or discard the ice water. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled martini/coupe glass using a Hawthorne and fine-mesh (or fine) strainer to catch tiny ice shards and any solids. Aim to leave a 1/4-inch layer of crema on top.

7

Garnish and serve

Garnish with three whole coffee beans gently placed on the foam. Serve immediately while cold and enjoying the crema.

8

Notes on proportions

Adjust sweetness with simple syrup to taste (0–0.5 oz). If you prefer a stronger coffee taste, increase espresso to 2.5 oz and reduce vodka by 0.5 oz to keep balance. All ingredient components are included above.
