Method
Cocktail
Combine and chill
Add the Don Ciccio Cinque amaro (or substitute), gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and orange bitters into a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup or enough to thoroughly chill) and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted on the outside.
Strain
Double-strain (use a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer) into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass. If you prefer on the rocks, strain into an old-fashioned glass over a large ice cube.
Garnish & Finish
Express the orange peel over the surface of the drink: hold the peel with the colored side facing down above the glass and give it a firm squeeze to release oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the drink (or place as a twist on the rim). Adjust amount of expressed oils to taste.
Serve immediately. The cocktail is built to showcase Don Ciccio Cinque’s bitter orange and gentian root character balanced by gin and bright lemon — sip and enjoy.
