Chill glass
Place a coupe or chilled cocktail glass in the freezer or fill with ice and water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
Combine ingredients
Add 2 oz gin, 1 tsp maraschino liqueur, 3 tsp fresh lemon juice, 1 tsp creme de violette, and 1 tsp simple syrup to a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (enough to nearly fill). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and a slight frost appears.
Double strain and serve
Double-strain the mixture through a Hawthorne strainer and fine mesh sieve into the chilled coupe to remove small ice shards and any pulp.
Garnish
Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, run it around the rim and drop it in (or garnish with a maraschino cherry). Serve immediately.
