Cocktail Base (for 12 martinis)

Method

Preparation

1

Chill glassware

Place 12 martini glasses in the refrigerator or freezer for at least 15 minutes prior to serving so drinks stay icy cold.

2

Prepare simple syrup if not pre-made: combine equal parts sugar and water (for this recipe 3/4 cup sugar + 3/4 cup water). Heat gently until sugar dissolves; cool completely and chill.

3

Cut lemons: reserve 12 thin wedges or long peels for twists and additional lemons for juicing. Zest one lemon for extra aroma if desired.

Rimming & Garnish

4

Pour superfine sugar onto a shallow plate. Moisten the rim of each chilled martini glass by dipping it lightly into 2 tbs lemon juice (or water) so the sugar adheres.

5

Dip each glass rim into the sugar, rotate to coat evenly. Set glasses aside right-side up on a tray.

6

Make lemon twists: use a peeler or small knife to cut 12 long strips of lemon peel, removing excess pith. Twist each and place one on each glass. Reserve edible rose petals for final tower decoration.

Mixing the Lemon Drop (makes 12 martinis)

7

Combine chilled vodka (3 cups), fresh lemon juice (1.5 cups), simple syrup (3/4 cup) and triple sec (1/2 cup, optional) in a large cocktail shaker or a large pitcher.

8

If using a shaker: fill the shaker with ice (about 6 cups total across batches). If using a pitcher: add a large quantity of ice to chill thoroughly and plan to strain through a fine-mesh sieve.

9

Shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds (or, if using a pitcher, stir vigorously 20–30 seconds and then pour through a strainer into a separate container to remove melted ice). The goal is to achieve a very cold, slightly diluted mixture.

10

Taste and adjust: if too tart, add up to 1–2 tbs extra simple syrup; if too sweet, add 1–2 tbs lemon juice. Keep the finished cocktail mixture chilled.

Serving & Tower Assembly

11

Strain and pour: using a fine strainer, pour the chilled cocktail into the prepared sugar-rimmed martini glasses, filling each about 3/4 full (roughly 4 oz / 120 ml per glass).

12

Garnish each glass with a lemon twist placed on the rim and one edible rose petal floated on the surface (optional).

13

Tower presentation: arrange the 12 glasses on a tiered serving stand or tower platform. Start from the bottom tier and work upward to ensure stability. Space glasses evenly and tuck a few rose petals between glasses for a decorative effect.

14

Keep spare ice and the remaining chilled cocktail mixture nearby for quick top-ups. Serve immediately, instructing guests to take glasses from the tower.

Notes & Safety

15

If preparing ahead: mix the cocktail base and chill, but do not rim glasses or add ice until right before serving to keep rims crisp. Alcoholic beverages are for guests of legal drinking age; drink responsibly.
