Method
Prepare Glass
Choose a rocks glass or coupe. Pour a little lime juice onto a small plate. Spread the coarse salt on another plate. Rub the glass rim with the lime wedge, then dip the rim into the salt to coat. Set the glass aside.
Make Margarita
Combine Ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz orange liqueur, 0.5 oz simple syrup (or agave), and 1 oz fruit purée/juice if adding flavor. If you selected passion fruit purée or an unsweetened purée, add the additional 0.25 oz simple syrup to taste.
Add Ice and Shake
Fill the shaker with a generous handful of ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold and slightly frosted.
Strain and Serve
Strain the cocktail over fresh ice in the prepared glass (for on-the-rocks) or double-strain into the chilled coupe if serving neat. If the purée is pulpy and you prefer a smooth drink, use a fine mesh strainer for a final strain.
Garnish and Finish
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and, optionally, a slice of the chosen fruit. Serve immediately.
