Base Cocktail

Method

Base Cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Select a highball or Collins glass. Fill the glass with cubed ice to chill while you build the drink.

2

Into a cocktail shaker add the dry gin (2 oz), fresh lime juice (0.5 oz) and simple syrup (0.5 oz). These form the spirit backbone and balance for the juice.

Juice Flavor (choose one)

3

Citrus option

If you chose citrus: add 3 oz fresh orange + grapefruit blend (about 2 oz orange + 1 oz grapefruit) to the shaker. Add a couple of large ice cubes, cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 10 seconds to combine and chill.

4

Melon option

If you chose melon: add 3 oz strained cantaloupe or honeydew juice (press or puree fruit and strain through fine mesh). Add ice and shake vigorously for 8–10 seconds to chill and lightly aerate.

5

Passion fruit option

If you chose passion fruit: add 2 oz passion fruit pulp or juice to the shaker. If using pulp, press through a small strainer or muddle lightly in the shaker. Add ice and shake for 10 seconds to integrate the tartness with the gin.

6

Apricot option

If you chose apricot: add 2.5 oz apricot nectar or thinned apricot puree (apricot puree whisked with 10–15 ml water if needed). Add ice and shake for 8–10 seconds until smooth and chilled.

Assemble & Garnish

7

Discard the ice from the chilled serving glass (if you used it to chill). Strain the shaken mixture into the glass over fresh ice. Use a fine strain if the chosen juice had pulp to keep the drink smooth.

8

If you prefer a lighter, fizzy finish, top the cocktail with 1 oz club soda. Stir gently once to combine.

9

Garnish with a mint sprig and a citrus wheel or matching fruit wedge (orange wheel for citrus, melon ball or rind for melon, halved passion fruit or lime wheel for passion, thin apricot slice for apricot). Clap the mint between your palms once to release aroma before placing on the drink.

10

Serve immediately with a straw or without, letting the fresh juices and gin sing together.
