Method
Prepare Glass & Ice
- 1
Chill and fill
Chill a tall glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes if possible. Fill the glass with about 1 cup of ice cubes to keep the soda cold and slightly dilute as it sits.
Mixing Soda
- 2
Combine sweetener and flavor
Pour 0.75 oz simple syrup (or liquid sweetener) and 0.5 oz flavored syrup into the chilled glass over the ice. Add 0.5 oz fresh citrus juice if using and 1 dash bitters if desired. Stir gently to combine but avoid vigorous stirring that will flatten the carbonation later.
- 3
Top with carbonated water
Slowly pour 12 oz cold carbonated water (club soda or seltzer) down the side of the glass to preserve bubbles. Pour in two or three gentle stages if necessary, giving the soda a moment to settle between pours.
- 4
Final gentle stir
Give the drink one very gentle stir (one turn with a bar spoon) to integrate the syrups into the carbonated water without losing effervescence.
Garnish & Serve
- 5
Garnish with a citrus wheel or wedge on the rim and tuck a fresh mint sprig into the glass. Taste and adjust sweetness: add up to 0.25 oz more simple syrup if you prefer sweeter. Serve immediately with a straw or stirring spoon.
