Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare

Chill a martini or coupe glass by filling it with ice water or placing it in the freezer for a few minutes.

  2. 2

Measure and add vodka, blood orange liqueur, fresh orange juice, fresh lime juice, and cranberry juice into a cocktail shaker.

  3. 3

If you prefer a slightly sweeter drink, add up to 1/4 teaspoon simple syrup or agave. Start with less — the blood orange liqueur and cranberry juice add sweetness already.

  4. 4

Fill the shaker with ice (about 6 standard ice cubes), secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds. Aim for a good chill and slight dilution.

  5. 5

Dump the ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the chilled martini or coupe glass using a cocktail strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove ice shards and pulp for a smooth presentation.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 6

Float a thin blood orange wheel or slice on the surface of the cocktail or thread a thin lime twist on the rim for aroma.

  2. 7

Serve immediately. Optional: express the oils of the lime twist over the cocktail before dropping it in or discarding, for a bright citrus aroma.
