Method
Tea
- 1
Boil water
Pour 2 cups of fresh cold water into a small saucepan or kettle. Bring the water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
- 2
Add tea
Once the water reaches a boil, remove from heat and add 1 tablespoon of black tea leaves (or place 1 tea bag into the pot). If you prefer a stronger brew, let tea steep in the hot water; for a lighter cup, steep for less time.
- 3
Steep
Cover the pot or place a lid on the cup and let the tea steep for 3–5 minutes. Use 3 minutes for a milder cup, 4 minutes for medium strength, and 5 minutes for stronger tea. If using green or delicate tea, steep for 1–2 minutes instead.
- 4
Strain or remove bag
After steeping, remove the tea bag or strain out the loose leaves using a fine mesh strainer into a teacup or teapot.
- 5
Add milk and sugar (optional)
Stir in 1 teaspoon of sugar (adjust to taste). If making milk tea, add 1 tablespoon of milk and stir until combined. Taste and adjust sweetness or milk quantity as desired.
- 6
Serve with lemon or mint (optional)
If you prefer lemon tea, add a slice of lemon to the cup or squeeze a little lemon juice. For a refreshing note, add 2 fresh mint leaves. Serve immediately while hot.
