Method
Prepare glassware & palate cleansers
Set up glasses
Place three clean rocks or small tasting glasses in a row on a tray or bar surface. If you have numbered tasting cards, set them in front of each glass (1 = Cristalino, 2 = Reposado, 3 = Añejo).
Arrange palate cleansers
Pour filtered water into the carafe and place it and the crackers or plain bread beside the glasses. If using citrus garnish, cut three thin slices and set one by each glass.
Pouring the flight
Measure and pour
Using a jigger or measuring device, pour 1 oz (30 ml) of Cristalino tequila into the first glass, 1 oz of Reposado into the second glass, and 1 oz of Añejo into the third glass. Pour gently to avoid splashing and to keep the glasses neat.
Optional decanting
If any bottle benefits from a quick breathe (especially some añejos), decant the measured pour into a small pitcher for 2–3 minutes before returning to the glass. This step is optional and depends on the tequilas' profiles.
Tasting procedure
Observe
Hold each glass up to eye level and observe color and clarity. Note that Cristalino will appear clear, Reposado will show a pale gold, and Añejo will be a deeper amber. Take brief notes if desired.
Smell
Bring the first glass (Cristalino) to your nose and take 2–3 short sniffs, then 1 deeper inhale. Move to the Reposado and repeat, noting vanilla, oak, or cooked-agave aromas. Finish with the Añejo and identify richer notes like caramel, chocolate, or toasted oak.
Taste
Take a small sip of Cristalino, allowing it to coat the tongue; note texture, sweetness, and finish. Between each sample, take a sip of water and a nibble of cracker to reset your palate. Proceed to taste Reposado and then Añejo in the same manner, comparing mouthfeel, complexity, and finish.
Compare & finalize
After tasting all three, revisit any sample for a second sip to confirm favorite characteristics. Use the tasting notepad to record impressions (aroma, body, finish, and preferred pour).
Serving & cleanup
Offer guests the option to top up their preferred tequila in a larger glass for extended sipping or to enjoy neat over a single ice cube. When finished, rinse glasses with warm water and allow to air dry.
