Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Fill a double old-fashioned glass or tiki mug with crushed ice to chill while you mix the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add Flor de Caña gold rum (1.5 oz), Disaronno (0.5 oz), Trapper Dan's Signature Mai Tai mix (2.5 oz) and fresh lime juice (0.5 oz). If your Mai Tai mix lacks almond notes, add 0.25 oz orgeat. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add up to 0.25 oz simple syrup.

  3. 3

    Shake

Add a handful of ice (not crushed) to the shaker. Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well-chilled and slightly diluted.

  4. 4

    Assemble

Dump the crushed ice from the chilled serving glass and fill it three-quarters full with fresh crushed ice. Strain the shaken mixture over the crushed ice.

  5. 5

    Float dark rum

Carefully float Myers's Dark Rum (0.5 oz) on top by pouring it slowly over the back of a bar spoon so it rests on the ice and creates a dark rum float.

Garnish & Finish

  1. 6

Garnish with a fresh lime wheel or wedge, a mint sprig gently slapped between your palms to release aroma, and an optional maraschino cherry. Lightly grate a small pinch (about 1/10 tsp) of nutmeg over the top or add a tiny additional drop of Myers's on the surface for aroma.

  2. 7

Serve with a short straw tucked to the side so the drinker can experience the rum float and the mix together. Recommend serving immediately while ice is fresh.
