Cooking Instructions
Prep the Pork
Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and rub the Hawaiian sea salt evenly over the surface of the meat.
Add Liquid Smoke
Drizzle the liquid smoke over the salted pork and rub it in to ensure it is well-coated.
Wrap in Banana Leaves
If using banana leaves, wrap the pork tightly in the leaves. This step is optional but adds flavor and moisture.
Place in Slow Cooker
Transfer the wrapped pork into a slow cooker. If not using banana leaves, place the pork directly in the slow cooker.
Add Water
Pour the water into the slow cooker around the pork to help create steam.
Cook Low and Slow
Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
Shred and Serve
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Serve warm, garnished with additional Hawaiian sea salt if desired.
