Sandwich (per serving)
Method
Sandwich Assembly
Prepare roll
Preheat a skillet over medium heat (or set oven to 350°F / 175°C if using oven). Slice the hoagie roll lengthwise, leaving a hinge if you prefer. Lightly spread the unsalted butter on the cut interior of the roll if toasting; place buttered side down in the hot skillet or place open-faced on a baking sheet and toast in the oven 3–4 minutes until golden and slightly crisp. Remove and set aside.
Combine cheeses
In a small bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella and sharp cheddar. Toss briefly so they blend evenly.
Build heated meat and melt cheese
On the bottom half of the toasted roll arrange the ham, then roast beef, then turkey in even layers. Spread the mixed cheeses evenly over the top layer of meat. To melt: place the assembled bottom half (meat + cheese) under a broiler 2–3 inches from heat for 1–2 minutes until cheese is melted and slightly bubbly, or cover and place in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 3–4 minutes. If using a skillet, cover the pan for 1–2 minutes to help cheese melt. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
Dress and finish
While the cheese melts, toss the shredded lettuce with the Creamy Italian dressing, salt and pepper in a small bowl until evenly coated. On the top half of the roll place the tomato slices in a single layer. When the cheese is melted, place the top half (tomatoes) over the bottom half and spoon the dressed lettuce onto the sandwich (on top of the melted cheese or on the top half, according to preference).
Serve
Cut the sandwich in half crosswise with a serrated knife. Serve immediately while cheese is warm and meats are heated. Provide extra Creamy Italian dressing on the side if desired.
