Spaetzle Dough
Method
Prepare the Spaetzle Dough
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of nutmeg. Whisk together until well mixed.
Cook the Spaetzle
Boil Water
Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil over high heat.
Form the Spaetzle
Using a spaetzle maker or a colander with large holes, press the batter through the holes into the boiling water. Alternatively, you can spoon the batter directly into the water by cutting it off with a knife.
Cook the Spaetzle
Allow the spaetzle to cook for about 2-3 minutes or until they float to the surface. Once they float, let them cook for an additional minute before removing them with a slotted spoon.
Drain and Toss with Butter
Drain the cooked spaetzle in a colander and immediately toss them with 4 tablespoons of melted butter to prevent sticking.
