Boulevardier Cocktail
Optional: For serving chilled/strained
Method
Prepare and Mix
- 1
Chill glass (optional)
If you prefer a well-chilled cocktail, place a coupe or rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill the serving glass with ice and water while you prepare the drink.
- 2
- 3
Fill the mixing glass with enough ice to come near the top (about 1 cup of ice).
- 4
Stir the mixture for 20–30 seconds (about 30–40 full stir rotations) until well chilled and slightly diluted. Aim for the liquid to be very cold and the outside of the mixing glass to feel frosty; this usually brings the drink to roughly 20–25% dilution.
Strain and Garnish
- 5
If you chilled the serving glass with ice water, dump the ice water now. If you prefer the Boulevardier on the rocks, place a large ice cube into the serving glass.
- 6
Using a Hawthorne strainer or julep strainer, strain the stirred cocktail into the chilled coupe or into the rocks glass over the large ice cube, depending on your serving preference.
- 7
Express the oils from an orange peel over the surface of the cocktail by holding the peel skin-side down over the drink and giving it a firm twist, then rub the peel along the rim if desired.
- 8
Garnish with the expressed orange peel. Optionally drop a cocktail cherry into the glass for a slightly sweeter presentation.
