Energy Drink (makes 1 serving)

Method

Energy Drink (makes 1 serving)

  1. 1

    Prepare concentrated mix

In a small clean jug, combine the sucrose (or simple syrup) and glucose syrup with 40 ml of warm (not hot) water to dissolve completely. Stir until sugars are fully dissolved and you have a clear syrup.

  2. 2

    Add acids and preservatives

Stir the citric acid into the sugar syrup until dissolved. Add the benzoic acid and potassium sorbate (if using) and mix thoroughly. These help preserve the drink if you plan to store it short-term.

  3. 3

    Incorporate active ingredients

Cool the syrup to room temperature if still warm. Add taurine powder, inositol, B-vitamin complex, and measured caffeine (50 mg). Stir vigorously until powders are fully dissolved. If needed, add a few milliliters of water to aid dissolution.

  4. 4

    Flavor and color

Add the natural/artificial flavoring (about 1 tsp) and the caramel or chosen food coloring. Stir to integrate; taste a small sample and adjust flavoring by ¼ tsp increments if desired. The flavor should be a clean citrus/cola-leaning energy profile.

  5. 5

    Combine with carbonated water

Fill a serving glass with ice cubes. Pour the chilled carbonated water (200 ml) into the glass. Slowly add the prepared concentrated mix (about 60–80 ml total of the syrup mixture) to the carbonated water, tilting the glass and pouring gently to preserve fizz. Stir once gently with a spoon to combine.

  6. 6

    Finish and serve

Optionally garnish with a lemon wedge. Serve immediately chilled. If you made extra concentrate, store refrigerated in a sealed container and use within 24–48 hours.
