Method

Brewing

1

Boil Water

Pour 2 cups of cold fresh water into a kettle or small saucepan. Heat until it reaches a rolling boil.

2

Warm the Teapot or Mug

If using a teapot, pour a small amount of the hot water into the teapot or mug, swirl to warm, then discard that warming water.

3

Add Tea

Place 1 tablespoon of loose tea into an infuser or tea strainer, or place one tea bag into the teapot or mug.

4

Pour Water Over Tea

Pour the boiling water directly over the tea, filling the teapot or mug (about 2 cups).

5

Steep

Allow the tea to steep for 3–5 minutes depending on the tea type and desired strength: 2–3 minutes for green tea, 3–5 minutes for black tea, 5–7 minutes for herbal infusions. Do not over-steep green tea to avoid bitterness.

6

Strain

Remove the tea bag or strain out the loose leaves using the tea strainer. Give the tea a gentle swirl to settle the leaves.

Finishing & Serving

7

Sweeten

If desired, add sugar (1 tsp) or honey (1 tsp) to taste. Stir until dissolved.

8

Add Milk or Lemon

For milk tea: add 1/4 cup milk and stir. For lemon tea: add 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice instead of milk. Do not add lemon when using milk (it may curdle).

9

Garnish

Optionally add fresh mint leaves or a lemon slice for garnish.

10

Serve

Pour the tea into cups if brewed in a teapot, or simply enjoy from the mug. Sip while warm.
