Smashed avocado mix

Method

Smashed avocado mix

1

prepare avocados

Cut avocados in half lengthwise, remove pits, and scoop flesh into a medium mixing bowl.

2

add seasonings

Add lime juice, olive oil, minced garlic, sea salt, black pepper, and the initial 1 tsp red chili flakes to the bowl with avocado.

3

smash and combine

Using a fork or potato masher, coarsely mash the avocados until mostly smooth but still a little chunky — about 30–45 seconds. Taste and adjust salt, pepper, or lime juice as needed.

Mix-ins & garnish

4

fold in fresh ingredients

Gently fold in chopped cilantro, diced red onion, and quartered cherry tomatoes (if using) until evenly distributed. Reserve a few cilantro leaves and a couple of tomato pieces for garnish.

5

final seasoning

Sprinkle an additional 1/2 tsp red chili flakes over the smashed avocado and gently fold once more. Add a squeeze of extra lime if you want brighter acidity.

To serve

6

toast bread

Brush both sides of bread lightly with 1 tsp olive oil and toast in a skillet over medium heat or in a toaster until golden and crisp, about 2–3 minutes per side in a skillet.

7

assemble

Divide the smashed avocado among the 4 slices of toasted bread, spreading evenly. Garnish each slice with reserved cilantro leaves, a pinch of extra red chili flakes, and a lime wedge on the side.

8

serve

Serve immediately so the bread stays crisp, and instruct diners to squeeze lime over the avocado to taste.
