Method

Prep

1

Wash and prepare

Wash the oranges thoroughly under cool running water to remove any surface residue. Pat dry with a clean towel.

2

Room temperature or chilled

If oranges are cold, let them sit for 10–15 minutes for easier juicing and slightly better flavor. If you prefer very cold juice, chill later with ice instead.

Juicing

3

Cut oranges

Cut each orange in half crosswise across the segments so the cut exposes the flesh for juicing.

4

Extract juice

Using a citrus juicer (manual reamer or electric), press and rotate each orange half to extract the juice into a large bowl or measuring jug. If using a blender, peel the oranges, remove seeds, break into segments and pulse briefly (10–15 seconds) until liquefied.

5

Strain (optional)

If you prefer pulp-free juice, pour the extracted juice through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean pitcher, pressing gently on the pulp to extract remaining liquid. For pulpy juice, skip this step and keep the pulp.

Adjust & Sweeten

6

Taste the fresh juice. If it tastes too tart or not sweet enough, stir in up to 1 teaspoon granulated sugar or 1 teaspoon honey, mixing until dissolved. Add 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice only if you want a brighter, slightly tangy note. Adjust sweetener to taste (start small — fresh oranges are often sweet enough).

Dilute & Chill

7

If the juice is very strong or pulpy, add up to 1 cup cold water and stir to combine. This lightens the intensity and stretches the yield. Add ice cubes to chill immediately or refrigerate the juice for 30–60 minutes to cool without diluting.

Serve

8

Fill glasses with ice if desired, pour the fresh orange juice over ice, garnish each glass with an orange slice and a sprig of mint if using. Serve immediately for best flavor.

9

Store any leftover juice in a sealed container in the refrigerator and consume within 48 hours. Stir before serving as natural separation may occur.
