Method
Preparation
Slice the Beef
Thinly slice the beef flank steak against the grain into bite-sized strips.
Marinate the Beef
In a bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, and half of the minced garlic and ginger. Add the sliced beef and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
Cooking
Prepare the Cornstarch Mixture
In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water until smooth. This will be used to thicken the sauce later.
Cook the Beef
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
Combine and Thicken the Sauce
Return the beef to the skillet. Pour in the marinade and bring it to a simmer. Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
Finish with Green Onions
Add chopped green onions and mix well. Cook for another minute.
Serve
Serve hot over rice or noodles, and garnish with sesame seeds and red pepper flakes if desired.
