Method
The Classics!
- 1
Preheat and prepare oven
Position an oven rack in the lower-middle position. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating. If using a baking sheet, lightly oil or line it with parchment.
- 2
Prepare dough
On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll the prepared pizza dough into a 12-inch (30 cm) round (or to preferred thickness). Transfer the shaped dough to a piece of parchment paper or a lightly oiled baking sheet. If the dough resists stretching, let it rest 5–10 minutes then continue.
- 3
- 4
Sauce layer
Spread 3 tablespoons of pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving the outer 1/2-inch (1 cm) border free for the crust.
- 5
Cheese base
Evenly sprinkle 2 cups shredded mozzarella over the sauce, covering most of the surface but leaving the crust visible.
- 6
Prepare and distribute meats
Evenly distribute the cured meats and bacon across the cheese: arrange 100 g ham, 40 g pepperoni, 40 g salami, and 30 g cooked crumbled bacon (bacon bitz). Make sure slices are spread so each slice will get a mix of meats.
- 7
Add vegetables and fruit
Scatter the toppings over the meats: 3 oz sliced mushrooms (arranged in a single layer as much as possible), 1/2 thinly sliced onion, 1/2 sliced green bell pepper, 1/2 cup pineapple chunks (drained if canned), and 2 tbsp sliced black olives. Aim for an even distribution so the pizza cooks uniformly.
- 8
Season toppings
Sprinkle 1/2 tsp dried oregano evenly over the assembled toppings and, if desired, 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes for heat. Taste and adjust lightly with additional salt or pepper only if needed.
- 9
Bake
Carefully transfer the pizza (with parchment if used) onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly and beginning to brown. Baking time may vary by oven and thickness—rotate halfway through if your oven has hot spots.
- 10
Finish and rest
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it rest for 3–4 minutes. This helps the cheese set slightly for cleaner slices.
- 11
Slice and serve
Using a sharp pizza cutter or large knife, slice the pizza into 8 slices. Serve hot. Offer extra crushed red pepper flakes or grated Parmesan at the table if desired.
