Method

Water

1

If using tap water, run cold water through your faucet until it is fresh and clear. For best taste, filter the water using a home water filter (pitcher, under-sink, or faucet-mounted) according to the filter manufacturer's instructions.

2

Measure 1 cup (240 ml) of filtered cold water. Use more or less depending on bottle size; scale ingredients proportionally.

Optional additions

3

Chill with ice (optional)

If you prefer chilled water immediately, add 3 ice cubes to the bottle or glass before pouring water. Note that ice will dilute as it melts.

4

Lightly flavored water (optional)

To add a light flavor, add 1 slice of lemon or 2 fresh mint leaves to the bottle or glass. Gently press the lemon slice against the bottle wall to release a small amount of juice. Do not add strong flavors if you want pure bottled water.

5

Ensure the bottle and cap are clean and sanitized. Rinse with hot water; for extra sanitation, wash with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and let air dry or sanitize with a dilute bleach solution (1 tsp bleach per quart of water), then rinse well.

6

Pour the measured filtered water into the clean bottle. If using optional ice or flavorings, add them before or after pouring as preferred.

7

Secure the cap tightly to prevent spills and contamination. Label the bottle with the date if storing.

8

Store bottled water in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and chemicals. For best quality, consume within 6–12 months if store-bought sealed; if homemade and opened, consume within 48 hours refrigerated.
