Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Build and Stir

Add 2 oz Hand Cut Barrel Select bourbon, 0.5 oz Makers 46, 0.5 oz Cocchi Vermouth di Torino, 0.25 oz Giffard Cocoa, 0.25 oz housemade demerara syrup, and 3 dashes Angostura bitters to a mixing glass.

2

Add Ice and Chill

Fill the mixing glass largely with ice (large cubes preferred) and stir gently and consistently for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 rotations) until the drink is well chilled, slightly diluted, and clear.

3

Prepare Glass

Place one large ice cube into a rocks glass (or use a chilled old fashioned glass). If serving in the waffle cone, set the waffle cone beside the glass for presentation; do not put hot/boiling liquid into the cone.

4

Strain

Double strain (optional) the stirred cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared glass over the large ice cube using a Hawthorne and/or julep strainer to remove any small ice chips.

Smoking & Aromatics (optional)

5

Smoke the Glass

If you want a smoked presentation, place the filled glass (or the empty glass before pouring) under a smoking dome or invert a large mixing glass over it. Light 1 tablespoon smoking chips in a smoking gun or on a piece of foil, direct smoke under the dome and capture until the glass is filled with smoke (about 10–20 seconds). Clamp the dome and let the smoke sit for 20–30 seconds before removing; then pour the cocktail into the pre‑smoked glass if you smoked the empty glass earlier, or invert the dome and remove carefully if you smoked after pouring.

6

Express Orange Oils

Hold the orange peel about 2–3 inches above the cocktail and firmly squeeze/express it skin‑side down so the oils spray over the drink surface, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass or rest on the ice.

Garnish & Serve

7

Garnish

Add the expressed orange peel to the drink and optionally drop in a Luxardo cherry on the ice. Rest the waffle cone on the rim or beside the glass as a playful edible nod — if desired, serve a small few crumbs of waffle cone on a side plate for tasting with the cocktail.

8

Final Touch

Serve immediately while chilled. Advise guests to nibble the waffle cone between sips; the chocolate notes from the Giffard Cocoa and the caramel of the demerara syrup pair with the cone for a dessert‑like Old Fashioned.
