Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Season the Steak

Rub the sirloin steak with olive oil, and season both sides with salt and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Cook the Steak

Preheat the grill or char-broiler to medium-high heat. Cook the steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached. Remove from heat and allow to rest for 5 minutes.

Preparing the Toast

  1. 3

    Toast the Bread

While the steak is resting, heat a skillet over medium heat. Melt the butter and add the Montana toast. Toast each side until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Assembling the Sandwich

  1. 4

    Slice the Steak

Thinly slice the rested steak against the grain.

  2. 5

    Assemble the Sandwich

On each slice of toasted Montana toast, layer the sliced steak, sautéed onions, and top with cheese. Place under a broiler for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.

  3. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving and enjoy your open-faced steak sandwich.
