Method
Chicken Fried Steak
- 1
Prepare the Steak
Tenderize the beef round steak using a meat mallet until it is about 1/2 inch thick. Season both sides with salt, black pepper, and paprika.
- 2
Coat the Steak
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In another bowl, place the flour. Dip each piece of steak first in the flour, then in the egg mixture, and finally back into the flour, coating well.
- 3
Fry the Steak
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the coated steaks and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Sausage Gravy
- 4
Cook the Sausage
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes.
- 5
Make the Roux
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
- 6
Add Milk
Gradually add the milk while stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Season with black pepper and salt to taste.
Side Dish
- 7
Prepare the Hash Browns
In a skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the hash browns and cook until crispy and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- 8
- 9
Toast the Bread
Toast the bread slices until golden brown.
