Method
Cooking the Fries
- 1
Prepare the Fries
Preheat your oil in a deep fryer or a large pot over medium-high heat. Ensure the oil is hot (around 350°F/175°C).
- 2
Fry the Fries
Carefully add the frozen French fries to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 3
Drain the Fries
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Sprinkle with a little salt.
Preparing the Cheese Sauce
- 4
- 5
Add Milk
Gradually pour in the milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue to cook until the mixture thickens slightly.
- 6
Add Cheese
Reduce the heat to low and add the American cheese slices, stirring until completely melted. If using nacho cheese sauce, add it at this stage and mix well.
- 7
Season the Sauce
Add salt and black pepper to taste, mixing well to combine.
Assembling the Cheese Fries
- 8
Combine Fries and Cheese
Place the hot, crispy fries on a serving platter or individual plates. Pour the cheese sauce generously over the fries.
- 9
Add Optional Toppings
Sprinkle with chopped green onions, jalapeños, and dollops of sour cream if desired.
