Biscuits

Sausage Gravy

Method

Biscuits

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Milk

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the milk. Stir gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  3. 3

    Shape the Biscuits

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about 1 inch thick. Cut out biscuits using a round cutter or a glass and place them on a baking sheet.

  4. 4

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown on top. Remove from the oven and set aside.

Sausage Gravy

  1. 5

    Cook the Sausage

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the pork sausage until browned, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks.

  2. 6

    Make the Roux

Once the sausage is fully cooked, sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir to combine, cooking for 1-2 minutes until the flour is slightly golden.

  3. 7

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.

  4. 8

    Season the Gravy

Season with black pepper, salt to taste, and crushed red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine.

Hash Browns

  1. 9

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and grate the russet potatoes. Rinse them under cold water to remove excess starch and then squeeze out as much moisture as possible using a clean kitchen towel.

  2. 10

    Cook the Hash Browns

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the grated potatoes in a thin layer and season with salt. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, then flip and cook for another 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
