Fresh Orange Juice
Method
Fresh Orange Juice
- 1
Prepare oranges
Wash the oranges thoroughly under cool running water to remove any dirt or residues. Pat dry with a clean towel.
- 2
Roll and halve
On a clean cutting board, roll each orange firmly under your palm for 20–30 seconds to help release the juices. Cut each orange in half crosswise.
- 3
Juice the oranges
Use a manual citrus reamer, handheld juicer, or electric citrus press to extract juice from each orange half into a measuring cup or bowl. Continue until all halves are juiced. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean pitcher if you prefer pulp-free juice; skip straining if you want pulp.
- 4
Adjust flavor and consistency
Taste the juice. If it’s too concentrated or pulpy, add up to 1/4 cup cold water and stir to reach desired consistency. If it’s too tart, stir in up to 1 teaspoon granulated sugar or an equal amount of simple syrup until dissolved. If desired, add 1/2 tablespoon fresh lemon juice to brighten the flavor and stir.
- 5
Chill and serve
Fill serving glasses with ice cubes if using. Pour the juice into glasses, stir once, and serve immediately. Store any leftover juice in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours; stir or shake before serving.
