Place the 300 ml Hana Kizakura Junmai Ginjo bottle in the refrigerator for at least 2–3 hours before serving. For quicker chilling, submerge the bottle in an ice bath (mix ice and water) for 15–20 minutes until the bottle is cold to the touch.

Chill the bottle

Place six small tasting cups (ochoko) or 90–100 ml glasses in the refrigerator or freezer for 10–15 minutes to lightly chill. If you prefer room-temperature sake, skip this step.

Chill cups or glasses

Rinse and pat dry edible cherry blossoms or sakura sprigs if using. Thinly slice lemon or yuzu and set aside one slice per serving. Keep garnish chilled until serving.

Prepare optional garnishes

Open the Hana Kizakura "Cherry Blossom" bottle carefully. Hold the bottle to your nose and take a gentle inhale to appreciate the sweet, fruity aroma characteristic of this Junmai Ginjo (notes of cherry and orchard fruit). Visually inspect the sake in the neck for clarity—Junmai Ginjo is typically clear with a slight viscosity.

Decant and inspect

Pour approximately 50 ml into each chilled tasting cup (six pours from a 300 ml bottle). Pour gently to preserve aroma. If you prefer larger pours for fewer guests, adjust to ~75 ml for four pours.

Pouring

If you find the alcohol edge too prominent, prepare a small pitcher with 100 ml chilled water. Offer guests the option to add a few teaspoons of chilled water to their cup to open the aroma and soften the mouthfeel. Add 5–10 ml water at a time, taste, and adjust.

Optional dilution

Place one edible blossom or a thin lemon/yuzu slice on the rim of each cup or on a small plate alongside the cup for guests who want to briefly scent or taste the garnish. Serve small plates of sashimi, edamame, pickled ginger, daikon/cucumber, and rice crackers to complement the sake's sweet-fruity profile. Encourage guests to taste the sake between small bites to note flavor interactions.

Garnish and palate cleansers

Recommend serving chilled (8–12°C / 46–54°F) to emphasize the fruity aroma and clean finish. Room temperature (15–20°C) will bring forward more body and rice-derived umami; warming above 30°C is not recommended for this Junmai Ginjo as it mutes delicate aromatics.

Taste notes and temperature guidance

Close the bottle with its original cap if you have leftover sake. Store upright in the refrigerator and consume within 3–7 days for best aromatic quality. Rinse and dry tasting cups and small plates promptly.
