Pre-wash the green tee in cold water and tumble dry low to remove sizing and minimize shrinkage. Remove lint with a lint roller and lay flat on a clean printing board. If desired, lightly mist with 1 tbs softener spray and let dry for a softer hand.

Prepare Artwork

Open the vector retro logo file and separate colors into individual layers for screen printing. Create halftones for any gradients or vintage distressed effects at 60-70 lpi. Produce a placement mockup showing chest-center placement (typically 3.5"–4.5" wide for adult M) and get approval if required.

Output one film positive per color on a transparencies printer at 100-300 DPI, ensuring crisp edges and correct registration marks aligned on all films.

Coat and Expose Screens

Using the scoop coater, evenly coat each screen with emulsion in a dark room. Dry screens in a dust-free area. Place the corresponding film positive on each screen, align registration marks, and expose under an exposure unit according to emulsion specs (typically 30–90 seconds depending on unit). Rinse out the unexposed emulsion to reveal the stencil, then dry screens fully.

Mix Inks

Measure and mix the cream off-white ink (60 ml) as the base color. Mix warm yellow and faded red (15 ml each) for accent layers. If using discharge printing for soft hand, mix discharge agent with the base ink following manufacturer ratios (add approx. 20 ml discharge agent to the base volume). Add small amounts of ink reducer/retarder (up to 5 ml) if the ink is too thick for desired coverage or to slow drying on the screen.

Set Up Registration

Mount the prepared screens on the press. Use registration tape or pins to align the screens to the chest-center placement. Test registration with translucent tape and a sample board before placing the tee. Lock the shirt on the platen using heat-resistant tape and alignment rulers so the center of the design aligns with center chest of the tee (measure about 3" down from collar for adult M).

Print Test

Perform a test print on a scrap fabric or an inexpensive tee to confirm ink opacity, registration, and color balance. Adjust squeegee angle (approx. 45°), pressure (medium-firm), and stroke speed for even coverage. For vintage look, you may reduce pressure slightly or do a partial off-contact for slightly distressed edges.

Print Final

Place the green tee on the platen. For multi-color prints, print the base cream/off-white layer first: flood the screen and pull a firm squeegee stroke to deposit ink evenly. Cure or flash the layer briefly (if using plastisol, flash at ~300°F/150°C until slightly tack-free). Next, register and print the warm yellow and faded red accent layers as needed, flashing between colors if using plastisol. If using discharge, print the discharge-mixed base and allow proper activation during curing.

Cure and Finish

Cure the printed tee to manufacturer's recommended temperature for chosen ink: typically 300°F (149°C) for 90 seconds conveyor-dryer equivalence (or a 4–8 second dwell with a heat press set to appropriate temp/time). Use a thermometer to verify surface cure temperature. If using discharge, ensure full cure so the dye is properly removed and ink bonded.

After curing, allow the tee to cool for 2–5 minutes. Inspect print for registration, cracks, and coverage. If any smudges or excess ink edges exist, carefully trim stray threads; avoid washing until fully cooled (at least 30 minutes).

Press the print lightly from the backside or use a cover sheet and heat press at a low temperature for 3–5 seconds to set the image and improve hand-feel. Fold and package the tee or return to the customer.
