Guy's Retro Logo Hoodie - Yellow Recipe

Prepare pattern and fabric

Prewash and dry fabrics to pre-shrink. Press fabrics flat. Lay out your hoodie pattern pieces on the yellow fleece according to grainline. Cut: front(s), back, sleeves, hood outer, pocket (if using), and rib pieces for cuffs and hem. Transfer markings and notches.

Interface neck facing and prepare lining

Fuse small strips of lightweight interfacing to the neck facing on the wrong side (if your pattern uses a facing). Cut hood lining from the lightweight lining fabric and press.

Assemble front and back

With right sides together, pin and sew the shoulder seams using a stretch stitch or 3-step zigzag at 1/2" (12 mm) seam allowance. Press seam allowances toward the back.

Attach sleeves

With right sides together, match sleeve notches to armhole and pin. Ease the sleeve cap if needed and sew with a stretch stitch. Repeat for both sleeves. Press seams toward the sleeve.

Sew side seams

Fold the hoodie with right sides together and align sleeve and side seams. Pin and sew from sleeve cuff through side to hem in one continuous seam on each side, using a stretch stitch. Finish seam allowances with a serger or zigzag stitch if desired and press toward back.

Hem and cuffs

Prepare rib cuffs by folding rib knit lengthwise and sewing short ends together to form tubes. Fold tubes in half and align raw edges with sleeve openings. Pin and stretch slightly to match circumference. Topstitch with a twin needle or zigzag for a professional finish. For the bottom hem, attach the rib hem band the same way, stretching to fit if required. Alternatively, turn up a 1" hem and topstitch.

Sew hood outer and lining

With right sides together, sew the center back seam of the hood outer and the center back seam of the lining separately. Press seams open.

Attach lining to hood

With right sides together, pin outer hood to lining along the front opening edges. Sew around the opening, leaving the lower neckline edge open where the hood attaches to the garment. Turn right side out and press the seam. Topstitch 1/8" from the edge for a crisp look if desired.

Attach hood to neckline

With the hoodie body turned right side out and the hood inside out, insert the hood into the neckline so right sides are together and pin matching center back and shoulder points. Sew the hood to the neckline with a stretch stitch. Finish seam and press toward hood or body as pattern recommends.

Insert drawcord (optional)

If using a drawcord, mark eyelet positions on the hood edge. Reinforce with interfacing on the wrong side, install cord ends or eyelets per manufacturer instructions, and thread the drawcord through using safety pins or an insertion tool. Knot ends or add toggles.

Prepare logo appliqué

Trace or print the retro logo shape to scale on paper. Cut a template and place it on the wrong side of the logo fabric. Follow Heat-n-Bond/fusible web instructions: press fusible web to the wrong side of logo fabric, then cut the logo shape precisely.

Fuse and secure appliqué

Peel backing from the appliqué and position it on the center chest of the hoodie, aligning to pattern placement markings. Press firmly with an iron following the fusible web instructions. For extra security stitch around the appliqué edge with a narrow zigzag or satin stitch using embroidery or topstitch thread.

Attach woven label

Place the sew-on Guy’s Retro woven label at the lower hem, cuff, or inside neck per your design choice. Secure by sewing the edges down with a straight stitch.

Press and topstitch

Give the entire hoodie a final press, using a pressing cloth on fleece to avoid flattening nap. Topstitch along shoulder seams, hood seam, and pocket edges if applicable for a finished look.

Trim threads and inspect

Trim any loose threads, check all seams for secure stitching, and test cuffs, hem, and zipper (if used) for smooth operation. Wash a test sample if producing multiple to check for puckering or colorfastness.
