Base Water

pH & Alkalinity (optional)

Flavor & Aroma (optional)

Method

Base Water

1

Start with 4 cups of cold filtered still water in a clean pitcher or large bottle. Using filtered water ensures taste neutrality and removes chlorine and impurities.

2

If you prefer chilled water, place the pitcher in the refrigerator for 30–60 minutes before adding mineral components so flavors settle evenly (optional).

Electrolyte & Mineral Boost

3

Measure dry minerals

Measure 1 tsp fine sea salt, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp magnesium chloride (or magnesium powder), and 1 tsp calcium citrate (if using). Use level measuring spoons for accuracy.

4

Add the sea salt and baking soda to the pitcher of water. Stir vigorously until fully dissolved. These provide sodium and bicarbonate to help with hydration and pH buffering.

5

Add the magnesium chloride and calcium citrate powder, one at a time, stirring between additions until each is fully dissolved. Magnesium supports muscle and nerve function; calcium supports bone and electrolyte balance. If you notice any persistent grit, allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes and stir again.

6

Taste the water after minerals are dissolved. It should be very mildly saline/neutral. Adjust by adding up to an additional 1/4 tsp sea salt if you prefer slightly saltier, or dilute with 1/2 cup more water if it's too strong.

pH & Alkalinity (optional)

7

If you want a brighter flavor and a small natural source of vitamin C, stir in 1 tablespoon fresh lemon or lime juice. This will slightly acidify the water but many find the citrus flavor pleasant. Note: adding lemon reduces alkalinity provided by baking soda but improves taste.

Flavor & Aroma (optional)

8

Add 4 cucumber slices and 6 fresh mint leaves to the pitcher. Lightly muddle the mint with the back of a spoon to release aroma but avoid over-muddling which can make it bitter.

9

Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors infuse. For stronger flavor, infuse up to 2–4 hours. Remove cucumber and mint before serving if you prefer plain appearance.

Serve & Store

10

Stir the pitcher briefly before pouring. Serve chilled over ice if desired.

11

Store any leftover smart water in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Shake or stir before serving, as minerals may settle.

12

Use caution: this is a lightly mineralized beverage intended to support hydration. Do not consume excessive amounts in place of water if you have kidney problems, are on a sodium-restricted diet, or take medications that affect electrolyte balance—consult a healthcare provider if unsure.
