Method
Cocktail
Muddle
Place the fresh black raspberries into the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the simple syrup and gently muddle until the berries are broken down and release their juices, leaving some small pieces for texture. Do not over-muddle into a paste.
Mix
Add the vodka, black raspberry liqueur, and fresh lemon juice to the shaker with the muddled berries. Fill the shaker about two-thirds with ice (use roughly 1 cup).
Shake
Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and the mixture is well combined and slightly frothy from the berries and citrus.
Strain
Double-strain the mixture into a chilled Collins or highball glass filled with fresh ice (use a hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to catch seeds and pulp).
Garnish & Serve
Garnish with a lemon wheel or twist laid on the rim and, if desired, a few whole black raspberries or a light sprinkle of lemon zest or crushed freeze-dried raspberries. Serve immediately.
