Prepare glass and ice
Fill a large wine glass generously with ice cubes so the glass is about three-quarters full. Chilling the glass briefly in the freezer is optional but recommended for a cooler drink.
Add Aperol
Pour 3 tablespoons (about 1.5 oz) of Aperol over the ice. Pouring directly on the ice helps keep the liqueur cold and avoids excessive dilution.
Top with soda
Add 1 ounce of chilled club soda or sparkling water on top to lightly top off the drink and add effervescence. If you prefer a slightly drier spritz, reduce the soda to 0.5 oz; for a lighter drink, increase to 1.5 oz.
Stir lightly
Using a bar spoon or the handle of a spoon, give the drink one or two very gentle stirs to integrate the Aperol with the Prosecco and soda without flattening the bubbles.
Garnish and serve
Slip an orange wheel or slice onto the rim or into the glass as garnish. Serve immediately while the Prosecco is bubbly and the drink is cold.
