Cocktail

Method

Prepare glass

1

Choose a chilled coupe or martini glass. Rub a lemon wedge lightly around the rim of the glass to moisten the edge.

2

Pour the teaspoon of sugar onto a small plate. Upside the glass and dip the moistened rim into the sugar to create an even sugared rim. Set the glass aside to let the rim set while you mix the cocktail.

Mix cocktail

3

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice (about 1 cup).

4

Add 2 oz Martell VSOP, 1 oz Cointreau, and 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice to the shaker. If you prefer a slightly sweeter, softer edge, add 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional).

5

Cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosty. This both chills the drink and slightly dilutes it for balance.

6

Double-strain the cocktail through a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh strainer (or a single fine strainer) into the prepared chilled, sugared coupe or martini glass to remove ice shards and any pulp.

Garnish & serve

7

Express the oils of a lemon twist over the drink by holding the twist over the glass and pinching it skin-side down to release the citrus oils across the surface, then drop the twist into the drink or hang it on the rim.

8

Serve immediately. Enjoy responsibly.
