Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Build and shake

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice (about 3/4 cup). Add vodka, white rum, gin, tequila, triple sec, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and one dash of Angostura bitters. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is well chilled.

  2. 2

    Prepare glass

Fill a highball or Collins glass with fresh ice (about 1 cup).

  3. 3

    Combine and top

Strain the shaken mixture into the prepared glass over the ice. Gently top with 3 oz chilled cola to fill and provide the characteristic brown 'tea' color. Give the drink one gentle stir (about 3 revolutions) to integrate without flattening the soda.

  4. 4

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lemon wheel or wedge on the rim. Optionally add a straw. Serve immediately.

  5. 5

Notes: This is a 'top-shelf' Long Island — you can increase or reduce spirits proportionally to taste. For a spicier Texas riff, swap reposado tequila for blanco, use a splash of spicy ginger beer instead of all cola, or add an extra dash of bitters.
