Method
Prepare Fruit
- 1
Wash and hull
Rinse the strawberries under cold water, remove caps, and pat dry. If using a grapefruit wedge for garnish, rinse and set aside.
- 2
Muddle strawberries
Place the 4 strawberries in a cocktail shaker or mixing glass. Muddle firmly for about 20–30 seconds until broken down and juicy but not completely pulverized.
Mix Cocktail
- 3
Add 2 oz vodka, 4 oz fresh grapefruit juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup (omit or adjust to taste), and 0.25 oz fresh lime juice (optional) into the shaker with the muddled strawberries.
- 4
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold.
- 5
Double strain the mixture into a chilled highball or coupe glass over fresh ice to remove strawberry seeds and pulp. If you prefer a lighter fizzy drink, leave out the double strain and instead pour through the shaker fine strainer only.
- 6
If desired, top with 1 oz club soda and gently stir once to combine.
Garnish & Serve
- 7
Garnish the drink with a strawberry sliced partway through its middle on the rim and/or a grapefruit wedge. Optionally express a grapefruit peel over the glass to release oils before dropping it in.
- 8
Serve immediately. Stir gently before drinking if soda was added.
