Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Add ingredients

Measure and pour 2 oz bourbon or rye, 0.25 oz Luxardo Maraschino, and 0.25 oz simple or demerara syrup into a chilled mixing glass.

  2. 2

    Bitters

Add 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters (optional) to the mixing glass.

  3. 3

    Stir and chill

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice. Stir gently but thoroughly for 20–30 seconds (15–20 revolutions) until the mixture is well chilled, slightly diluted, and properly integrated.

  4. 4

    Prepare glass

Place a large clear ice cube in a rocks glass. If you prefer, chill the glass briefly before pouring.

  5. 5

    Strain

Using a strainer, pour the stirred cocktail over the large ice cube in the rocks glass.

Garnish & finish

  1. 6

    Express orange oil

Using a peeler or knife, cut a thick strip of orange peel (avoid too much pith). Hold the peel over the glass, skin-side down, and give it a firm twist to express the citrus oils over the surface of the drink. Optionally run the peel's outer skin around the rim for added aroma.

  2. 7

    Garnish

Drop one Luxardo Marasca cherry into the glass and rest the expressed orange peel on the rim or in the drink.

  3. 8

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the layered flavors: the spirit forward base, subtle cherry and almond notes from the Maraschino, gentle sweetness from the syrup, and balanced bitters.

Tools & cleanup

  1. 9

Rinse and dry the mixing glass, spoon, jigger, and strainer. Store bar tools and remaining Luxardo and syrups properly for future use.
