Cocktail

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a coupe or chilled martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes while you prepare the cocktail, or fill the glass with ice water to chill and discard before serving.

  2. 2

    Toast coconut (optional)

If using fresh coconut flakes for garnish, spread about 1 tsp of flakes on a small baking sheet and toast in a 325°F (160°C) oven for 3–5 minutes until golden, watching carefully to avoid burning. Let cool.

Mixing

  1. 3

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz gin, 0.5 oz coconut rum, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz coconut cream, and 0.25 oz simple syrup.

  2. 4

    Dry shake

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously without ice for 8–10 seconds. This helps emulsify the coconut cream for a silky texture.

  3. 5

    Shake with ice

Add 1 cup of ice to the shaker, then shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and the exterior is frosty.

Strain & Serve

  1. 6

    Double strain

Discard ice/water from the chilled glass if used. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to catch any ice shards and coconut solids.

  2. 7

    Garnish

Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim and sprinkle the toasted coconut flakes on top or along the rim (optional). Serve immediately.
