Preparation Steps
- 1
Wash and Prepare the Apples
Thoroughly wash the fresh apples under running water to remove any dirt or pesticides. Remove the stems and any bruised spots.
- 2
Chop the Apples
Cut the apples into quarters, removing the cores. It’s not necessary to peel them, as the skin adds flavor and nutrients.
- 3
Cook the Apples
In a large pot, combine the chopped apples and 1 cup of water. Cover and cook over medium heat for about 15-20 minutes until the apples are soft.
- 4
Mash the Apples
Once the apples are soft, use a potato masher or fork to mash the apples, releasing their juices. Ensure you do this thoroughly to extract as much juice as possible.
- 5
Strain the Mixture
Place a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth over another pot or large bowl. Pour the mashed apple mixture through the strainer to separate the juice from the apple pulp.
- 6
Sweeten the Juice
Add 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to the strained juice. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- 7
Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the apple juice for at least 1 hour before serving. Serve chilled over ice if desired.
