Whole Fruit & Add-ins
Equipment
Method
Prepare Fruit
Wash and room-temper
Rinse the oranges under cool running water and dry them. If stored in the refrigerator, let them sit at room temperature for 15–20 minutes — room-temperature oranges yield more juice and better aroma.
Roll and halve
On a cutting board, roll each orange firmly under your palm to soften the flesh and break down membranes. Slice each orange in half crosswise.
Juicing
Juice oranges
Using a citrus juicer (electric or handheld), press and rotate each orange half to extract the juice. Collect the juice directly into a pitcher. Continue until all halves are juiced.
Adjust & Serve
Taste and adjust
Taste the juice. If it tastes flat or too sweet/tart, stir in up to 1 tsp granulated sugar and/or up to 1 tsp fresh lemon juice to brighten flavors. Add up to 1 cup cold water to slightly dilute if too concentrated; add gradually and re-taste.
Chill and garnish
If serving cold immediately, add ice cubes to glasses and pour. For best flavor, chill the juice in the refrigerator for 30–60 minutes before serving. Garnish each glass with an orange slice or a mint sprig if desired.
Storage
Store leftover juice in a sealed pitcher or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours. Stir or shake gently before serving; flavor will fade after a day.
Cleanup
Rinse juicer parts, strainer, measuring spoons, and cutting board immediately to prevent sticky residue. Wash with warm soapy water and dry.
