Tea Base
Measure water and tea
Measure 960 ml (4 cups) cold water. Use 6 black tea bags OR 12 g loose-leaf black tea for a slightly stronger brew suitable for serving over ice. (If you prefer hot tea or a milder taste, use 4 tea bags or ~8 g loose leaf—see notes below.)
Heat water to the right temperature
Heat the 960 ml water to near-boil for black tea (about 95–100°C / 203–212°F). If you substitute green tea instead, heat to ~80°C (176°F) and shorten steep time (see note).
Steep the tea
Place the 6 tea bags (or loose-leaf tea in an infuser) into a heatproof pitcher or teapot. Pour the hot water directly over the tea to fully saturate the leaves/bags. Cover and steep: black tea 4 minutes for a balanced, slightly strong brew (3–5 minutes acceptable). If using green tea, steep 1.5–2.5 minutes.
Remove leaves or bags
After steeping, remove and discard the tea bags or lift out the infuser/strain the leaves. Do not squeeze the bags aggressively—this can add bitterness.
To Serve
Cool quickly (pour-over-ice method)
Fill serving glasses with the 2 cups of ice. Pour the freshly brewed tea over the ice. Pouring hot tea over ice rapidly cools it and creates a clean iced tea without long refrigeration. If you prefer to chill without dilution, transfer the tea to a covered pitcher and refrigerate until cold (about 1–2 hours).
