Caramelized Fig Topping
Method
Preparation Instructions
Prepare the Ingredients
Wash and dry the fresh figs, then cut them in half. Peel and chop the apples into small cubes. Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves. Chop the Kell's onions. Coarsely chop the hazelnuts.
Sauté the Onions and Garlic
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped Kell's onions and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they become translucent. Add the chopped garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Caramelize the Figs
Add the halved figs to the skillet and pour in 1 cup of espresso. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the figs to soften and the liquid to reduce slightly.
Add Apples and Hazelnuts
Stir in the chopped apples and hazelnuts into the skillet. Cook for another 3-5 minutes until the apples are tender and everything is well combined.
Finish and Serve
Remove the skillet from heat. Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed. Serve warm as a topping for desserts or alongside cheese and charcuterie.
