Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Chill a rocks glass or coupe by placing it in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or filling briefly with ice water, then discard the ice water before pouring.

2

Add ice to a cocktail shaker until about two-thirds full (approximately 6 standard ice cubes).

3

Pour 1.5 oz Frangelico, 0.5 oz vodka (if using), 1 oz slightly cooled espresso, and 0.25 oz simple syrup into the shaker.

4

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds to chill and slightly froth the mixture (this helps integrate the espresso and liqueur).

5

Strain the mixture into the chilled rocks glass over fresh ice (or serve neat in a coupe if preferred).

6

Gently float 1 oz heavy cream on top: pour the cream over the back of a spoon held just above the drink surface so it layers, or if you prefer, lightly shake the cream with a few ice cubes for 3–4 seconds and pour for a marbled effect.

Garnish

7

Sprinkle 1 tsp toasted or shaved hazelnuts over the cream layer, then dust with 1 tsp grated dark chocolate or a light pinch of cocoa powder.

8

Serve immediately with a short stirring stick or straw so the drinker can incorporate the cream into the liqueur as desired.
