Preparation
Prepare the Mint and Lime
In a sturdy glass, add the fresh mint leaves and granulated sugar. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently crush the mint leaves with the sugar to release the mint oils. Be careful not to shred the leaves too much; just press them lightly.
Add Lime Juice
Cut the lime in half and squeeze the juice from both halves into the glass. If you prefer a stronger lime flavor, you can also add some lime wedges to the glass while muddling the mint.
Mix in the Rum
Pour the white rum over the muddled mint and lime mixture, stirring gently to combine the flavors.
Add Ice
Fill the glass with ice cubes, packing them in tightly to keep the drink cold.
