Marinara Sauce Ingredients

Method

Preparation of Marinara Sauce

1

Heat the Olive Oil

In a medium saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.

2

Sauté the Garlic

Add 4 teaspoons of minced garlic to the hot oil and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

3

Add the Crushed Tomatoes

Pour in the 28 ounces of crushed tomatoes, stirring well to combine with the garlic and oil.

4

Season the Sauce

Add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of sugar to the sauce. Stir well to incorporate all the seasonings.

5

Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

6

Garnish and Serve

Once the sauce is thickened and flavors have melded, remove from heat. Stir in 0.5 cup of chopped fresh basil for a burst of flavor. Serve warm as a side.
